School Calendars and Asynchronous Learning Days
On Tuesday, Feb. 16, the WCPSS Board of Education approved school calendars for the remainder of the spring semester that better align the number of in-person learning days across the three rotation cohorts.
Here are the changes to note:
Each calendar now indicates which cohort will report to school for in-person learning on that day. All changes to rotations occur in the fourth quarter of this school year, with one exception: March 10 and 11 have been changed to in-person learning days for Cohort 2 on the traditional calendar.
We are adding either two or three new asynchronous days depending on the calendar. The reason we have added these days is to support teacher collaboration while also providing students with opportunities to engage in small group instruction and to have time to seek extra help if needed.
We will continue to explore opportunities to improve this calendar to maximize the benefits of in-person learning.
Any family who wants to know more about opportunities available for their student on these days should contact their teacher and/or school principal.
FYI: Curbside Meal Distribution Canceled Thurs. Feb. 18 Due to the inclement weather forecast, we will be canceling Curbside Meals on Thurs., Feb. 18.
FYI: Future Teachers Program Calling all students interested in a teaching career! The Future Teachers Program application window is open through March 31. Future Teachers seeks to develop the district’s internal student talent. Future Teachers participants are WCPSS high school graduates who intend to pursue careers in education and who commit to teaching with us upon completion of their teacher preparation programs.
The program is open to WCPSS high school seniors (Class of 2021) who have (or will) gain admittance to a college or university for the fall semester, and who intend to pursue K-12 teaching careers with WCPSS. Find out more and how to apply at https://www.wcpss.net/FutureTeachers
